'Silly Bandz' Cause Headaches In Classroom
Schools Want Bracelets Out Of Sight In School

HARTFORD, Conn. -- If you haven't heard of Silly Bandz, odds are you will soon. They are a huge hit with school-aged children but they are causing headaches in the classroom. Now, some schools are trying to keep them out of sight.

Channel 3 Eyewitness news reached out to nearly 24 different school districts in greater Hartford and found that public schools in Berlin, South Windsor and Glastonbury have had to make restrictions regarding the Silly Bandz, which are cute, colorful and collectible, but also a big distraction.

Second grade student Rebecca Olshan said, "They are fun shapes. If you get animals you can use them to play around like toys."
Middle school students collect them too
"They're just cool, I guess," said Sara Wilcox.
Educators at a number of different schools in greater Hartford do not think the Silly Bandz are too cool.

The bandz have not been banned, but they have had to make some restrictions. Olshan said, "In school we aren't allowed to wear them anymore because they get distracting."
Wilcox said, "You can trade them outside, but you can't trade them in your homeroom or during classes."
